Ok, I realize some of you may be thinking mid-October is too early to be talking about Christmas. However, we, the Admin here at i2eye Fan Fiction, have an idea for something fun we’d like to do for Christmas and we want to see how many of our members might be interested in participating. Since it’s going to take a good deal of planning and preparation, we wanted to go ahead now and gauge your interest in it.
Anyway, the idea is to possibly do an “Online Secret Santa”.
The gifts exchanged would have to be gifts that could be exchanged online so that no one would have to give out personal information like their address.
Ideas in our case, for this site, might be some of the following:
- a story written/dedicated to the person or perhaps even featuring that person in a cameo in the story
- a poem for that person
- a personalized avatar
- a customized signature
- a piece of artwork (fan art, signature banner, computer wallpaper, photo, etc.)
- a STFBE video dedicated to the person
Anyway, members who were interested in participating would pm an Admin to sign-up for the Online Secret Santa. Upon signing up they would be asked to answer a short questionnaire with possibly some of the following questions:
Favorite color?
Favorite STFBE character? Favorite couple?
Favorite type of story - romance? adventure? comedy? drama? etc?
Favorite song?
Anything in particular you like/collect?
etc.
(Questions that would give your Secret Santa an idea of what you like in order to make a story, poem, avatar, signature, etc. a little more personalized)
We would set a deadline to sign-up to participate and after that deadline we would take the name of each person interested and draw to match up members with their “Online Secret Santa”.
Once everyone has been assigned a Secret Santa, members would be pm’d with the name of the person they will be a Secret Santa to - along with the questionnaire with the answers provided by that person so that they have an idea of what to create for them.
The basic idea is to do something that can be exchanged online so that we could have a fun Christmas exchange without exchanging personal contact information which some people would be uncomfortable with. It could be cost-free and a great creative outlet.
There may be other options for gifts that we haven't thought of too - those were ones that came to mind because we know they are things many of our members do.
If you have additional ideas for gifts, feel free to pm an admin and suggest something and we will discuss it and decide if we think it is appropriate.
Right now, we’re just trying to get an idea of how many people would actually be interested in participating in this, so that we know if there are enough members to actually move forward with plans to set everything up. If we determine we have enough interest in it, we will work out the rest of the details later.
We hope to have an accurate count of those that would actually participate and follow through. So please don’t tell us you would be interested in participating if you know that you won’t actually follow through. We’d hate to set up everything only to find out that there aren’t really enough members who are actually participating to make it worthwhile. Even more so, we’d hate to start it and in the end have a member not receive a gift because someone didn’t follow through.
We are posting this message on the site, as well as emailing all registered members to ensure all our members receive it. If you are interested in participating, please pm an Admin, me or Cath (eeyorefan), by October 28th. If we decide to implement this, you can still participate even if you didn’t pm us about being interested by October 28th. However, we will use responses received by October 28th to determine if we have enough interest to actually set everything up.
While we are on the topic of Christmas, please look for our Christmas Challenge coming in November. We will be posting details for it around November 3rd and will be giving members a week to think about it and what they might like to write before officially opening up the challenge on November 10th. Even if you don’t write, reading and replying is always welcome and appreciated and encourages the writer to continue writing.
We also have an idea for an exciting tie-in with the Christmas Challenge that will hopefully generate more interest in the Challenge and be a great show of Christmas spirit. So, we hope to see you at the Challenge!
